Schools spending money ‘in secret’ on legal bills?
So, I have this friend of mine who is a school board trustee. His district is an elementary district. And he estimates that on a monthly basis, his board is handed a bill for between $40,000 and $50,000 for completely undefined "legal expenses" that his superintendent won't disclose to his board even in closed session.
What that means, is that we also no way of knowing if that money is being spent to defend a teacher against a lawsuit, the district against a frivolous (or not!) suit brought by the parent of a student, or whether it's being spent on hookers, booze, or RNC-style entertainment practices.
And there are reportedly more than 1,000 school districts in the state of California. Do the math:
